XM Radio has a number of receivers that it offers to its subscribers. These include the plug and play receivers, in-dash receivers, desktop receivers and home theater systems and portable personal systems.
XM Radio’s plug and play receivers are attached to a base unit that brings with it antenna, power, and even audio connections. The plug and play receivers that come with multiple bases can be installed anywhere, whether at home or in the car and in the car. The portable boom-box kind of units for the XM Radio allow the plug and play receivers even to be used outdoors.
The other kind of receivers that XM Radio comes with is the in-dash receiver. These are built to be integrated with one’s car’s music system. In fact, many factory built car stereo systems even come inbuilt with XM Radio.
Desktop receivers and home theater systems are also common receivers for XM Radio. Many manufacturers are making home theater systems that come complete with XM Radio systems. They also include an external tuner that can be connected to a headset.
The other kind of XM Radio receiver is the one that comes along with a portable personal system. These systems are completely self-contained and can play other recorded content apart from XM Radio.
Apart from providing the content on its various channels, XM Radio also allows downloads from a tie up between XM and Napster for people who use Windows.
The popularity of XM Radio is attested by the fact that it has entered into a great many commercial brands, especially airlines. As far back as in 2005, AirTranAirways started to put XM Radio on their aircraft. United Airlines followed suit by using XM Radio content the following year. Air Canada did the same in 2007, displaying that these partnerships were flourishing.
