As far as theoretical are concerned, men and women have equal rights in every aspects of life. The Quran gives men and women equality in the idea of creation of human beings. It’s one of the most controversial subjects for the discussion. So, ideologists and scholars have also different opinions about it. Some scholars believe that Islamic theories that are mentioned in the Quran and Hadiths (tradition) of the Prophet are totally different from Islam in practice. These theories are not applied according to the Islamic ideologies that determine the position of women in the Islamic societies. Moreover, these theories are the pre-Islamic patriarchal ideologies existing in a particular society that are combined with lack of education and ignorance, that construct the position of Muslim women.
From spiritual perspective, men and women have granted the same equality according to Islam. It is clearly mentioned in their holy book The Quran that men and women who guard their chastity and engage much in Allah praise, for them Allah prepare forgiveness and great award. There are various obligations for men and women are mentioned in The Quran and women are not exempted from any of the obligations that are for men. So, there is no any kind of gender bias according to their holy book. But there are some special circumstances under which a woman has to follow some obligations. A woman may not be required to fast in case of pregnancy or nursing a child because in this scenario, there may be danger of her life along with the child. Fasting is also prohibited for women during travelling. Moreover, a woman may not fast or participate in religious functions or performance of prayers during her menstrual periods.
As far as education rights of Islamic women are concerned, The Quran and Hadiths of the prophet obligate Muslim male and female to acquire knowledge and education. It is an essential duty for every Muslim whether they are men or women. In the early Islamic history, there were many women scholars who had dominant roles in the Islamic world. For example, the Prophet’s wife Ayesha was one of the most renowned Muslim scholars. She was not only very intelligent but she had an exceptional memory also. That is one of the primary reasons, she was considered as one of the most important sources of Hadith.
Thus, women have been significant role and reputed social status in Islamic society. There are some parts in the world where women are still harassed by their counterpart but overall situation is quite different.
