“Vitamine” is the original word of Vitamin. It means vital amine. The daily food that we eat consists of vitamins in the form of powerful organic compounds. Vitamins are necessary for all human beings as they assist cells and tissues to complete essential functions. The growth of human body is not possible without vitamins.
Vitamins can be categorized in two parts, fat-soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins are popularly known as hormones. Most generally known vitamins are water-soluble vitamins, of which the most famous one is ascorbic acid or vitamin C. Previously it was considered that most of the vitamins belong to one section called B Complex as they had same source. Afterwards they were classified under different vitamins.
Besides famous vitamin C some of the other vitamins are A, B1, B3, B5, B9, D, E, H, K, P, Choline, and Inositol. Some of these vitamins are recognized by their biological names, like vitamin H, Biotin and vitamin B1 is known as thiamine.
Our body needs small amount of vitamins on regular basis to assist it function effortlessly and remain healthy. These vitamins assist the organs to perform their specific functions. . Lack of these vitamins can make our body sick and suffer from one of the vitamin deficiency diseases. External vitamin supplements can compensate the deficiency of vitamins caused by not having balanced diet.
Our daily diet is called balanced diet when it consist of right combination of essential vitamins. Doctors recommend vitamin supplements to patients suffering from chronic illnesses. People suffering from bowel disorder and pregnant women should keep close eye on their vitamin intake. Bowel disorder slows down the absorption of fat-soluble vitamin. Patients suffering from Thalassaemia are advised to have Folic Acid. Patients suffering from pernicious anemia have acute deficiency of vitamin B12 in their body and needs to be injected with vitamin B12.
Although vitamins are necessary and helpful for our body, overdose of anything is bad. Overdose of vitamins can result in serious damage to our body. For example, per day our body needs 400 to 800 units of vitamin D. Consuming more Vitamin D than this can cause calcium being engrossed by bloodstream resulting in severe kidney damage. A healthy diet cannot be ever replaced by external vitamin supplements hence it’s always good to have daily balanced diet.
