Receiving radio signal from a radio station depends on several factors. Having a good quality radio, having a good antenna for signal reception and even the area you live in, affect the quality of the radio signal you receive. If you are not able to receive good signal then you can try the following techniques to boost FM radio reception. These are simple, inexpensive techniques that anyone can follow. After carrying out these simple steps you will find that the quality of the radio signal will improve and you will also be able to listen to a wide range of radio stations.
You will need a dipole antenna and an outdoor radio antenna to complete this task.
Your radio will have a power cord attached to it. Locate this power cord. It will usually be present on the top or at the back of the radio. This power cord is generally used for improving the signal you receive. Extend your power cord to the maximum possible length and check whether the radio signal has improved.
The radio will provide you with two options; one is stereo sound and the other is mono sound. You will be able to hear the sound better if the “mono” is turned on. If this does not improve the sound quality then try the next step. Your radio will have an antennae present in it for receiving radio signals, if the antenna is not properly aligned in the direction of the radio signal transmitter then you may not be able to get a good reception. So to eliminate this possibility stretch your radio’s antenna to the maximum length possible. After extending it, slowly move the antenna in all the different directions and find out the best direction for maximum reception of the signal. Do not disturb the position of the antenna from this place.
Having obstacles between the radio and the transmitter might result in poor signal reception. Hence position the radio near a window to eliminate obstacles such as walls and doors. This can result in improving the radio’s reception.
The radio’s sound reception can also be improved by attaching a dipole to your radio. A dipole is a T shaped antenna. It is actually quite small in size. A dipole antenna can be purchased from a local electronics store or a hardware store. This dipole antenna has to be attached to the FM radio’s input. After attaching the antenna move the wire around slowly while surfing through the channel to check the signal quality.
If all the above steps fail to produce the desired result then try this foolproof step. Buy an outdoor antenna from hardware or an electronics store. Install this antenna on your roof top. Connect the antenna’s output to the input of the radio. Now adjust the orientation of the antenna by moving the antenna slowly till you get a good signal. Make sure that the antenna is parallel to the ground level and is not at an angle to the ground to ensure good reception.
By following these steps boost the FM radio reception and enjoy quality music from all the music stations.
