Staying healthy as we know is a whole body system concept – we exercise for our whole body, we take vitamins and supplements for our whole body, if we are fat or skinny it affects our whole body. This we know. However as far as health in medicine is concerned – this is not an obvious concept.
Typically the medical world has looked for the virus or place of concern in the body and wages war there. And only there. That the virus or bacteria is part of a host – you – is not their concern. It’s a matter of identifying the intruder and then kill it. Collateral damage to the rest of the host is the price for beating the dis-ease.
This brings us to the stumbling blocks that medical currently has – with things like – cancer – where the attacks are whole system problems not a virus.
The leading cause every year between 1935 and 2012 have been heart disease, cancer, and stroke were. And although in most cases death rates have fallen, with cancer this has not been the case, overall. For instance although there was a decrease in stomach cancer – there has been over the years an increase in death rates from lung and brochus cancer in both men and women.
And overall the medical community and society as a whole has never really grasped the true concept of mental illness for instance and sees it still as a character defect to a large extent, and or a brain virus that needs to be zapped.
But the good news is gradually the medical world is going back to its roots. Accepting the Dis- ease as a whole system problem or malfunction. And even though this is in desperation born from their ‘defeat’ in the ‘war on cancer’ ( and now the rising number of deaths from heart disease in UK, US and Canada, especially among those under 50) – this is still good news.
Heart disease is, after all, caused to a large degree, by lifestyle – obesity and blatant disregard for the organism – the human body and what it needs to stay healthy. Cancer is not a virus (nor a lifestyle problem) but a whole system ( your cellular structure) turning on itself.
The medical community at first had high hopes for DNA testing and the human genome – and although this has meant steps forward in rating the chances of an individual being susceptible to one form of disease or another (famously testing for Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s) they cannot give a read out of your or my health in real time. They can only say what types of genes and cells you or I have and therefore our predisposition toward certain types of disease. Your DNA does not predict your health future in any concrete way – it is merely an indicator of possibilities, that may or may not ever happen to you the individual.
A whole health treatment would be when a doctor can get a read out from the cellular conversation in you body that tells her or him what is happening right now. How you or I as an individual react to certain types of drugs or certain types of chemotherapy for instance. Chemotherapy may appear to decimate your cells where the tumor is, but it could also be circulating through your body, there combining with other factors and doing further long term damage. No-one, at this point knows, how to find this out. They just treat ‘the cancer’ and hope.
Whole treatment health would be where it is understood how your particular system, which is not the same as my particular system, or your mothers or sisters particular system, how it interacts and reacts to certain stimuli (drugs, chemicals, vitamins etc.) and then be able to proscribe a treatment that calms and un-diseases your whole system. And of course also be able to point out what foods and supplements work best in your system.
In the East, where they have not had the technology , medicine has survived only by treating the whole body, the whole system. There is hope now that we in the West who have been fixated on wars against viruses will move now to combine our technology with the Eastern regard for the person as a whole system and then we can really see not just increased lifetimes, but the ability to have a complete life of wellness and optimum health and at whatever stage of life.
