Cairo is one of the major cities in the African continent. It is the capital of the Islamic country known as Egypt. Cairo is the capital of the country so it is regarded as the most important city all over the country. What use of the capital of a country if it doesn’t have any University of an international repute. Cairo University named after its home city is one the oldest educational institutes of the country. It declared as a public university so its affairs are controlled by the central Egyptian government.
In early 1900s the city had faced a dire need of an educational institute so as a result the university was there on the map in December 1908. The university was established as College of Engineering was closed in 1854. The University was built as an institute which could match the level of education in the European countries and further more it was set as a model for other cities where such educational were under way. Today the modern day Cairo University consists of a highly reputed law school and the best medical schools in the African Continent and Middle Eastern Muslim states. As a matter of fact is the first medical school both of these regions. Over the years it has under gone many expansions. In its long years of history university has several different names such as University of Egypt.
University has produced many outstanding students such as Talha Hussein who was the first person to graduate from the University. He was the first Egyptian to become the Dean of the arts school. He further progressed to be an education minister for the country and also has the honor of receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature. Plus he was blind from his early child hood days. The list of faculties in the Cairo University is long. It is most famous for medical and Law but Faculty of Agriculture, Commerce, Sciences, Arts, Archeology, Computer and IT, Dentistry, Engineering, Mass communication, Pharmacy and physiotherapy are also very famous and well reputed.
The number of laureates coming out of the highly well-reputed and well-respected University of Cairo is immense.
